All he was told was the conference theme was the biblical passage where Jesus comes to the disciples walking on the water and calls them to step out of the boat. He provides the roadmap to facing the challenge of finding the courage to love … and love fiercely. Poet David Whyte was invited to speak at a conference led by the Sisters of Mercy in Galveston, Texas. Read the full poem at the end of this post. Later in the poem, he describes the transition to risking the vulnerability of love. My poem describes the the receiving end of that love, but David Whyte describes the giving of that fierce love.
